The mornings have become much cooler and the sunsets just a little earlier these days. I walked outside on September 1 and the low valleys were filled with a heavy fog that hung down to earth. Our youngest daughter has a love of gardening and earlier this summer she asked about planting Sunflowers in the garden. We were at the store one day when she spotted the spinning rack of seeds and I let her pick out her favorite packet of seeds. With a smile on her face and joy in her heart she just couldn't hardly wait to get home and plant her seeds.

We live in a world where very few get everything they want. I suppose there are the extremely rich who could buy anything that their hearts desired but I often wonder if that brings the contentment that they may seek. New vehicles, big houses, the best clothes, lavish vacation destinations can all sound appealing but do we ever truly find contentment in those things? Contentment is a state of happiness and satisfaction. A deep down true form of contentment is what my soul yearns for, that peace with what we have and where we are right now. Back roads and summer time just go together for me. Given a choice of a back road or the main highway and I will always say the back roads. I feel at peace in the country with nothing but fields, flowers, animals and the occasional tractor or horse and buggy in our area. Driving back roads means slowing down and enjoying life.Read More
